From late September to May we offer conversational English classes at the Church of the Ascension in Oakland on Mondays from 10-11:30 am. These classes are for ladies who already have some knowledge of English. The goal of these classes is to help increase vocabulary, aid in pronunciation and to make the students feel more comfortable communicating in our very difficult language. We will make every effort to place students in classes with ladies who are at their same skill level, so they can learn in a relaxed atmosphere.
The classes are free to any IWAP member. The annual fee to join IWAP is $25.00. You are welcome to attend a class as our guest to see if it meets your needs, and then join the next week or at one of the regular Thursday meetings. We offer childcare for a small fee. If you have children who are not in school yet and require childcare, please send us an email (iwap.pittsburgh@gmail.com) to be sure we have someone working in the nursery before you come for class the first time.
As with our regular meetings, there is no English class when Pittsburgh Public Schools are closed or have a delay (late start) due to bad weather conditions! If the weather is bad, check local TV or radio stations to get information about whether schools are closed.
Classes are held at the Church of Ascension, 4729 Ellsworth Ave. Class starts promptly at 10:00 am. As a courtesy to your teacher and the other students, please be on time. You will need to push the button to the left of the glass door on the Neville Street side of the church in order to get into the building.
